EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art will host a work-in-progress viewing of Carl Knif Company’s latest work Memory of Water on 8 May at 7 pm. The work premieres in March 2027 and is a co-production with musician Marianne Maans and kantele-musician Eija Kankaanranta. Free entry to the work-in-progress!
Memory of Water is a choreographic concert that weaves together the sensory and somatic experiences of music and movement into a multi-layered performance where water serves as the common thread.
The music, rooted in both modern folk music and contemporary art music, creates a living soundscape where the varied expressions of the three performers take shape and interact.
The work is developed in close collaboration between the musicians and the dancer and is designed to be performed in diverse contexts and spaces where it is easy to engage with the audience.
Water as an element evokes a myriad of associations, thoughts and feelings. The sea unites and separates. Water is the fundamental prerequisite for life – at once concrete and abstract. It can also function as an existential mirror. Through water, we are bound to nature; we are an inseparable part of an ecosystem, and water gives us an opportunity to understand and sense this connection.
