BREATH – GAZE – SPACE: workshop for professionals and students of performing arts
Dance House Helsinki rehearsal studio, Kaapelinaukio 3, 14.00 – 17.00
Explore Carl Knif’s somatic method “BREATH – GAZE – SPACE”, designed to bring artists into a delicate interplay and spatial awareness. The method is the result of many years of choreographic work and draws inspiration from meditation, yoga and pilates. It was originally developed in collaboration with Carl Knif Company’s dancers as a choreographic tool and performance method.
The method uses the physical body as a starting point. As one becomes aware of their breathing, one becomes aware of the body and its inner space. Through the breath one also becomes aware of the gaze, which places them in contact with the scenic space and with other people in the space. Through this the form and rhythm of a performance can be developed.
The exercises aim at a holistic and personal expression of movement, and the method’s simple instructions and clear progressive structure make it great for anyone interested in dance and their own movement expression. The workshop is guided by dancer Terhi Vaimala.
Price: 10 € (a limited amount of pay-what-you-can spots also available)

After the workshop, at 17.30 – 18.30 in Pannu Hall, we’ll also organise an open rehearsal of our newest solo I address you, along with a discussion with choreographer and dancer Carl Knif.
